Birthday Parties:
It is school policy that birthday party invitations may not be distributed in school unless the entire class is invited. I understand that it is very difficult to include everyone and that is okay. Please remember that if you would like to get in touch with another student's' parent/guardian, you must send in a note asking them to contact you and supply your contact information. Unfortunately, I am unable to distribute contact information at this time. Thank you for your cooperation! |
Absent notes:
A note must accompany your child when they return to school. Thank you for your help! Absent note: www.greenwoodscharter.org/pdf/forms/GWCSAbsenceNote.pdf Chaperoning Field Studies: All clearances must be on file and up to date with the office in order to attend a field trip. Clearances must be handed in prior to the field trip and should be on file at the beginning of the school year! If you have any questions in regards to clearances, please contact Kim Birkmire at [email protected]. |
Snacks In our class we encourage healthy snacks each day. Students are given a morning snack break every day.
*ALL SNACKS MUST BE NUT FREE Please put your child's snack in a container with their name or write directly on the product! Keep their snack in a different container from their lunch! **We encourage reusable containers if possible :) *NO WATER BOTTLES MAY BE KEPT IN THE CLASSROOM FOR SAFETY REASONS! Students may use the water fountain right next door to our classroom as needed or keep their water bottles in their lockers. Snack donations are welcome! We are always looking for nut-free non-perishable snacks for students who forget their snack (pretzels, animal crackers, etc.) |
HolidaysOur focus as a school is on using the Environment as an Integrated Context for learning. The major themes that will be celebrated during the year are: Fall (Fall Festival), Winter, (Winter Solstice), Spring (Earth Day), and Summer (Summer Solstice/Fun Day). The emphasis for our holiday celebrations will be the celebration of these seasons. Please do not send in any food or snacks for celebrations!
Behavior: School Rules: BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL In our classroom, students are active participants in setting our community expectations and responsibilities. We focus on positive behavior and modeling correct behaviors. Students are frequently rewarded for positive behavior in many ways including but not limited to classroom cheers, verbal rewards and “Lashin Loot” (classroom reward/ behavior system). Our school uses School Wide PBS- which is a school wide positive behavior management system. Here at Green Woods, we use Trailblazers. Trailblazers are given out randomly by ANY of the staff members to ANY of the students when they are caught doing something kind or good. The student has to walk to the office with their Trailblazer card where they will draw a number to determine where on the school wide board it will go. As soon as there are 10 cards in a row, those 10 lucky students will be chosen for a very special prize and the board is cleared and restarted! Conduct Referrals are given in first grade when students endanger the safety of others or cause frequent disruptions to the learning environment. Parents will always be contacted when a Conduct Referral is issued. |
