Good afternoon 1st grade parents! Here are a few updates for this:
1. Words to know this week: after, read, draw, was, pictures, write 2. Homework for this week is Reading pages 11-12 (both sides) and Math Homework is Math Practice 4.1 (both sides). Both are due on Friday! 3. Scholastic orders may be placed online at any time! Please notify me when you place an order so I can make sure it is shipped ASAP! 4. We are still collecting items for the food drive! All donations are greatly appreciated :) 5. Chaperones have been selected for the upcoming field trips and they have already been notified. If any cancellations occur, new chaperones will be contacted. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to chaperone our trip! I greatly appreciate your support :) 6. Gym is on Friday (Day 2)! 1. New HW Logs were sent home today! Please read over both sides! Each night your child should color in the star to show that they completed their HW each night. Every week a parent should be signing their homework log as well. At the end of the month, parents should sign the top of the homework log before turning it in to the teacher. HW logs are due the last day of November! 2. Math Homework this week is 3.10 (both sides) and Reading Homework is Page 17 and 19 (double sided). Both are due on Friday! 3. Words to know this week: would, her, now, our, she, today 4. Important dates: Friday, November 9th -Field trip forms and money are due! If you would like to be a chaperone, all clearances must be on file! Monday, November 12th-No School (Veteran's Day)! Wednesday, November 21st-1/2 day (noon dismissal) Thursday, November 22-Friday, November 23rd- No school (Thanksgiving Break) 5. Gym is on Wednesday (Day 2)! I wanted to let you know that we are going on a field trip to Adventure Aquarium! The trip will take place on Wednesday, December 12th from 9:30-2:45. All field trip information is being sent home today as well as the permission slip. The cost of the trip is $21 and it may be paid in cash or by money order made out to GWCS. Please send exact change only with the permission slip in an envelope with your child's name on it. All field trip forms and money are due next Friday, November 9th. If you are interested in chaperoning, please check off the box on the permission slip and make sure all of your clearances are already on file and up to date with the office. If you are selected to be a chaperone we ask that you pay the admission fee of $13.50. I will contact you if you have been selected soon! If you have any questions please let me know! Math homework this week is an addition review sheet (piles of pumpkins review). Reading homework is Short i and Clusters with r (pages 14 and 15). Both are due on Friday! *Monthly homework log is due this Friday! Please make sure the calendar is completed and signed!! 4. Halloween: No homework! Have fun trick or treating :) I will keep you posted if there will be any Halloween festivities this week. 5. IMPORTANT: There are two cases of lice in first grade. Please make sure to check your child for lice and read the attached document below. This is reminder that tomorrow is a half day for students (noon dismissal). We will have snack but we do not have lunch. All reading and math homework are due tomorrow as well as any late signed tests. We are also still collecting coins for UNICEF! All donations are greatly appreciated! Don't forget about our upcoming Silent Auction on Saturday, December 1st (see flyer in your email for more details)! We hope to see you there! Fall conferences are right around the corner and I wanted to give you some time to figure out your schedules so that you are able to sign up for a conference on Thursday, October 18th or Friday, October 19th. Please pick a time slot that works best for you. Conferences can be in person or on the phone (if you chose a phone conference please leave the best number to reach you). If you need to make any changes to your sign up time please let me know as soon as possible. Conferences are 15 minutes long and will run back to back so please be sure you are on time for your conference! Missed or late arrivals will need to be rescheduled at another time. This week begins the start of homework in 1st grade! Your child will be coming home today with a homework log/monthly news which will be in the back pocket of their Green Woods folder (please read both sides of the sheet!!). They will also have new flashcards for the words to know for this week (they are also listed weekly on the hw calendar). I am also sending home reading and math homework sheets that are double-sided and will be due on Friday (they can turn them in earlier if they finish before then). Lastly, I will be sending home their Reading tests. Please sign and return them to me by this Wednesday, October 3rd. The math test will be coming home this week as well so be on the look out for the test to be signed and returned as well! Don't forget we have gym on Thursday (Day 2)! Also, I am still collecting box tops until October 22nd! Kid Stuff books should also be returned or order forms by the end of this week. If you placed an online order from Scholastic it should arrive late this week or early next week! I will place my next order on October 31st! It was so nice to meet all of you last night! If you were unable to attend Back to School Night, I have attached my power point presentation below. Thank you again for your commitment to your child's education! We are going to have a wonderful year ahead! *Our first dress down day will raise money for Marlee’s Mission and Lisa’s Army. Students may wear gold, yellow, gray (for brain cancer awareness) or a Marlee's Mission shirt. The dress down day is $1 and all proceeds raised goes to support Marlee's Mission's team at the Lisa's Army Run/Walk on October 13th. *Tomorrow is the last day to place Scholastic orders for this month (online orders only please!) I just wanted to send a quick note to welcome you to my classroom and introduce myself! My name is Jill Lashin and I have been part of the GWCS team since the days back in the woods at the Schuylkill Center! I am happy and proud to be a part of the Greenwoods family and I absolutely love teaching 1st grade! I am excited for the new school year to begin and to meet all of my new students! There will be more essential information sent out over the first few weeks of school as well as at Back to School Night.
